Energy, the environment and our climate are serious ecological issues that concern us every single day. As we continue to witness those occurrences that we call natural disasters, we have to wonder if the earth is retaliating from all of the stress, neglect and abuse we put it through. We continue to collaborate with other nonprofit organizations and ordinary individuals who are doing some great things to make a difference in our environment and the pride we take in where we live. Reflecting on the appearances of many of our area neighborhoods, we witness a plight that is too serious not to mention or do something about. All too often, neighborhoods seem to be defined by the way they look overall, the houses that occupy these neighborhoods and the pride residents take in how their communities look. The horrors that plague our environment like air pollution, contaminants that afflict our water systems and toxic waste frighten us and make us fear the worst for our future if we don’t do something about the cause of the problem now. We know that we cannot fix everything, but the things we can fix, we must get on the ball and get the job taken care of. We are not 100% energy efficient or gone completely green, but we are learning to change many of our old habits into innovative ways to keep our planet living, breathing and reproducing the natural resources that sustained us since the beginning of time. What are you doing in your community to make an environmental difference? What can be done in your neighborhoods, schools, on your jobs or in your worship institutions to make a positive environmental impact of sustainability? What recycling measures are you taking to keep our landfills, water resources and roadways free from litter and harmful contaminants? We invite you to share your ideas with us on our blog or Facebook page. In the meantime, Favorite Things for a CAUSE would like to offer a FREE ebooklet called Project Clean Up Your ACT! We Are Working to Bring Environmental Awareness to Our Communities!
“Favorite Things for a CAUSE (Creating Awareness by Understanding Setbacks through Edification),” is a not-for-profit mission promoting hope, goodwill and mentoring, by collaborating with community alliances. The highly acclaimed Oprah Winfrey Favorite Things Show inspired founders, Francene Marie Morris and Kym Gordon Moore, to turn their idea of using some of their favorite things or favorite benevolent projects to help those in the community.
On Sunday, December 16, 2007, their debut project launched with a mock version of Oprah’s Favorite Things Show, which was held at The Dove’s Nest, a program that provides a loving, highly structured Christian environment to help women understand and deal with the core issues of their alcohol and/or drug addiction. This gave Francene and Kym an opportunity to share some of their favorite things with these women, and to encourage them to persevere in their journey towards healing and recovery, while holding on to hope, despite the trials and tribulations they were facing.
For this launch, Favorite Things for a CAUSE received various donations from generous contributors (consisting of fragrance and cosmetics samples, hair care products, food and a variety of other core necessities) that the residents could use. An even bigger blessing came when the mission received a copy of the January 2008 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine from the publisher of Hearst Publications for each resident and staff member. These gifts were not tokens of pity, but symbols of love, encouragement and support, by paying it forward.
With it’s ongoing charitable mission, Favorite Things for a CAUSE continues to build community alliances with ordinary people who are going above and beyond the call of expectation, by doing some extraordinary things to make a difference in the lives of everyday people.
